The Kappa Theta Chapter's Glory Days
Local History:

The Kappa Theta Chapter of Theta Xi was founded on July 9, 1947 as a chapter of Kappa Sigma Kappa. Our chapter of Kappa Sigma Kappa was the first greek organization on campus to allow minorities to join. As a result of the merger of 1962, the chapter became a chapter of Theta Xi.
The first house of Theta Xi at Western Illinois University was located at 216 N. Sherman Drive. It was purchased in the year 1968. In 1989, the house was destroyed by a fire. The second house was built and completed in 1991 located at 812 Wigwam Hollow.
In 1997, Western Illinois University suspended the Kappa Theta Chapter for ten years for various reasons. Shortly afterward, national headquarters revoked the charter. The house was sold to the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity in August of 2000.

Kappa Theta's Recolonization & Chartering

Six years had gone by, and the chapter was ready to recolonize in 2003. The petition was approved by Western Illinois University . Six members were initiated in the Fall of 2003 by the Alpha Sigma Chapter at Bradley University . Those six members were George Chapman, Rob Burtis, William Vara, Macario Viezca, Mike Thorson, and Derek Stephens.
Since the recolonization, the Kappa Theta Colony continued to thrive among the Western Illinois University greek community. On April 28th 2007, the Kappa Theta Colony became the Kappa Theta Chapter. The ceremony was held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Springfield Illinois.

Kappa Theta Mourns
Theta Xi Kappa Theta Chapter Mourns: On October 8th 2007, Theta Xi at WIU campus lost their chapter adviser, Dr. Zoochi to pancreatic cancer. Dr. Zoochi played a huge roll in re-establishing the Kappa Theta Chapter at WIU. His legacy will live on through all of us. Rest in peace Dr. Z. The service was held in Orland Park, IL. The funeral procession ended at Skyline Memorial Park Cemetery in Monee, IL.
